Local Storage runs on the same RBAC that governs the rest of Scalata: who can create, read, update, or delete a file is decided by role, not by whoever happens to have a link.

Collaboration has two doors. Share Access is for work inside the firm: a grant to a colleague, with a due date, whether the file was uploaded, attached, or saved straight from a widget. Share Externally is the other door for anyone outside the firm: time-bound, never a forever link.

This isn't shallow summarization. With real ingestion technology behind it, your agents can build a grid across hundreds of documents with full citations, assemble high-quality PowerPoints, and construct powerful financial models, all grounded in the same inventory of files.

From upload to insight

Getting a file into Local Storage is the first step, not the whole job. Behind the scenes, every document moves through the same pipeline before it's ever handed back to you as an answer.

Load. Bring data in however it already lives — CSV and Excel drag-and-drops, REST APIs, or a direct database connector. Before anything downstream touches it, Scalata validates the file: correct format, expected columns and types, nothing corrupted or incomplete. Bad data gets caught here, before it wastes a run.

Store. Raw files are rarely clean, so Scalata fills or flags missing values, removes duplicates, normalizes dates and types, and standardizes column names — then saves the result in encrypted storage, structured tables and unstructured documents alike. From there it builds a semantic index: not just keyword search, but a representation the AI can query by meaning, so a question like "what were our top-performing products last quarter" finds the right data even when those exact words never appear in it.

Use. Query in plain language or structured form, and the AI engine takes it from there — LLMs to interpret the question, analytics engines for the math, retrieval-augmented generation to ground the answer in the files actually on file rather than a guess. Results come back the way you need them: a report, a dashboard, an API response, or straight into a BI tool.

It's a closed loop. Data comes in, gets cleaned and indexed automatically, and comes back out as something you can act on — without you touching the plumbing in between.

How Local Storage is different

Traditional enterprise storage was designed for sequential people: open a folder, read a file, write it back. Agents don't work that way. If a file has to live inside the prompt, the run dies the moment the context window fills. Drive plus a chat thread plus a warehouse plus a deck is a stitch job waiting to unravel. Scalata Local Storage is a persistent workspace designed for both people and agents. It provides one reliable inventory of files that the entire firm can work from. Role-based access controls determine who can create, view, update, or delete each file. Internal colleagues can receive access through Share Access, while external users receive time-bound access through Share Externally. Agents can only access the files their users are authorized to see.

Instead of placing entire files inside a prompt, Scalata keeps them in Local Storage and retrieves the relevant information when needed. This keeps prompts manageable while allowing the underlying knowledge to remain available across conversations, projects, and models.
